Good news for the St. Louis Rams regarding left tackle Jake Long, the team's latest big-name offseason acquisition. Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Long will be able to join the team midway through spring organized team activities (OTAs) coming off surgery to repair a torn triceps muscle.
That timeline should put Long in Rams practice gear some time during late May or early June, with plenty of time to prepare for training camp and the start of the 2013 season. Long went under the knife of Dr. James Andrews this past winter to repair an injury that cost him the final four games of the 2012 regular season.
Long was one of the biggest names on the market when the NFL free agency period began on March 12. His stock had fallen somewhat from where it had been previous seasons, however, due in large part to injury issues that rendered him less effective last season with the Miami Dolphins. Still, the former No. 1 overall pick is expected to be a major upgrade for a Rams offensive line that gave up 35 sacks last season.
