The free-agent period has been in a lull recently as the market thins and the draft nears, but things picked up on Thursday as a number of teams inked new players to deals. After Osi Umenyiora was signed by the Falcons on Wednesday, that seemed to stir up the interest in defensive lineman. Multiple teams made moves to shore up their defensive fronts the day after Umenyiora inked his contract.
The Saints worked some salary cap magic by adding a piece that should strengthen their porous defense. The Redskins grabbed a veteran defensive lineman from a division rival.
There is still more to be done, as other teams have been working out players. The Steelers, Lions, Bills, and Giants all took a closer few at prospective signings on Thursday. That should guarantee plenty more action on Friday.
