Dwight Freeney rumors: Broncos, Lions and Dolphins make DE's wish list

Andy Lyons

Dwight Freeney remains one of the top free agents left on the market. He isn't in a rush to land a new deal, though. What teams are the 33-year-old hoping to sign with?

With the Atlanta Falcons signing Osi Umenyiora Wednesday, Dwight Freeney is left as one of the few effective pass rushers available in free agency. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, Freeney wants more money than Umenyiora, and has named the Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions and Miami Dolphins as teams he likes.

Freeney is willing to wait, though. Umenyiora received a two-year deal initially worth $8.5 million. The former Colts defensive end seems to believe he's worth more than that. Other teams might not be as interested in handing out that kind of contract.

Rapoport noted on NFL Network's Total Access that Freeney "spotlighted" the Lions on his free-agent tour. Detroit needs a replacement for Cliff Avril. While Freeney won't be as effective at 33, he would instantly improve the pass rush.

Don't expect Freeney to rush into a new deal anytime soon. Apparently he's content with waiting until after the NFL Draft to sign, and possibly even training camp when teams could be in dire need as a result of injuries. If he can land the deal he wants, it will be the last major pay day of his career.
