Darrelle Revis trade rumors: No rush for Jets to deal

New York can take its time and figure out what it wants to do with the star corner.

The New York Jets are in no rush to make a move in regards to their elite cornerback Darrelle Revis.

New York, which has publicly said it wants to keep Revis but also has done nothing to stop any rumors that he is available for the right price - a kings ransom - has no timetable on figuring out where to go from here, according to the New York Times.

New general manager John Idzik is in a tough spot. Revis wants a new contract, feeling he is woefully underpaid. Considering his track record, Revis is correct. The corner is scheduled to make $6 million this season, a far cry from the $15 or so he's probably worth.

However, Revis is coming off a torn ACL, making this situation impossible to figure out. How can any team be totally comfortable handing out a six-year/$90 million type deal?

The Jets don't seem willing to pay Revis anywhere near that amount of money, and have really damaged the relationship by not saying or doing much in terms of making Revis feel loved recently.

The Pensylvania native has always wanted to be playing in New York, but now things have gone somewhat sour.

The Jets clearly want to trade him, saying as much by saying absolutely nothing. Problem is, New York knows it's not going to get anything close to fair market value. Any team that acquires Revis is going to have to shell out a huge sum of money to keep him, albeit off an ACL tear.

Good luck getting two first round picks, probably what a healthy Revis is worth.

On the flip side, if New York knows it isn't going to pay Revis, the time to trade him may not be during the offseason. Maybe the Jets gamble and hope Revis proves he's healthy during the first couple of weeks next season and drives the price back up.

All in all, New York has time to make a decision on its best player, perhaps in franchise history. It just needs to make the right one.
