LeGarrette Blount trade rumors: Buccaneers trying to move RB

LeGarrette Blount is being shopped by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after signing a one-year deal worth $1.75 million.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers agreed to a one-year, $1.75 million deal with LeGarrette Blount on Saturday -- but that doesn't mean the running back is in Tampa Bay's plans in 2013. The Buccaneers are trying to trade Blount for a mid-round draft choice, according to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora.

Blount's contract includes $700,000 worth of performance incentives, and according to La Canfora, the incentives are "reachable."

Tampa Bay could have placed a second-round tender on Blount, and gained a second-round draft choice through restricted free agency. However, no team is likely to surrender a second-round pick for Blount. Instead, the Buccaneers will try to move him and his reasonable one-year contract for a mid-round draft pick.

Blount carried the ball just 41 times in 2012, for 151 yards and two touchdowns -- easily his worst season in the NFL. Blount's 3.7 yards-per-carry average was down nearly a yard and a half from his rookie year average of 5.0 in 2010.

With Doug Martin entrenched as the starting running back, trading Blount for a mid-round pick seems like the smart thing to do for all parties involved.
