The trade is just the latest move by new Eagles coach Chip Kelly, who has been reworking the Philadelphia roster to meet the needs of his system. Acho should help the Eagles add depth to the linebacking corps in their transition to a 3-4 defense. Lewis, at 5'8, 195 pounds is considered on the small side for what Kelly needs out of his running backs and likely would have been waived had he not been traded.
Acho, a sixth-round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft out of Texas, missed his entire rookie season due to a knee injury.
Lewis fell to third-string on the Eagles roster last year behind LeSean McCoy and Bryce Brown. In two years he totaled 171 yards rushing on 36 carries with two touchdowns and added three receptions for 21 yards. In Cleveland he will compete to backup Trent Richardson with Montario Hardesty.
