Carson Palmer named Cardinals starting QB

There will be no quarterback competition in Arizona as Carson Palmer will open the season as the Cardinals starter.

Following his trade from Oakland, Carson Palmer will open next season as the Arizona Cardinals starting quarterback, according to Arizona head coach Bruce Arians.

It didn't take long for Arians to make a decision. A few hours after Arizona finalized their trade with Oakland, Arians named Palmer the starter at the quarterback's introductory press conference.

"I'm here to introduce our starting quarterback, and put it to bed," Arians said, via Albert Breer. "And I'm very happy about it."

The acquisition of Palmer completes Arizona's revamp of its quarterback depth chart. Kevin Kolb and John Skelton are gone with Palmer and Drew Stanton replacing them atop the depth chart. While there will be no quarterback competition, Arians spoke highly of the quarterbacks behind Palmer.

"I think our quarterback room is as strong as any in the National Football League," Arians said, according to Pro Football Talk.

In addition to Palmer and Stanton, Ryan Lindley and Brian Hoyer round out Arizona's quarterback depth. With Palmer now in the fold, it didn't sound as if he and Arians were expecting a rebuilding project. Arians said the Cardinals are only a player or two away from competing while Palmer said he shares a similar mindset.

"They want to win now," Palmer said. "And at the point I'm in, in my career, I want to win now, too."
