Aaron Hernandez injury: Patriots TE may open on the PUP list

Al Bello

New England has two injured tight ends, including Hernandez, who may not be ready for training camp.

New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez might begin training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, according to ESPN.com.

Hernandez underwent shoulder surgery this offseason and is expected to need four months to recover. Hernandez however should be ready for the beginning of the regular season on September 8.

Last season, Hernandez was very solid when he played, amassing 483 yards on 51 catches, scoring five touchdowns in ten games.

If there is any issue with Hernandez, it's unquestionably his durability. The Florida Gators product has never played a full campaign with New England in three years.

Already without Rob Gronkowski who broke his forearm twice last season and then dealt with an infection is the surgically repaired area, New England is running low on tight ends. Tom Brady also lost receiver Wes Welker to the Denver Broncos via free agency, further weakening the offense.

Welker was replaced by Danny Amendola, who signed a five-year contract.
