NFL Draft results 2013: Manti Te'o, Geno Smith, Tyrann Mathieu headline a hectic Day 2

Debby Wong-USA TODAY Sports

The second day of the NFL Draft was not short on action as a number of big names came off the board. Geno Smith, Manti Te'o and Tyrann Mathieu were among the players who heard their names called.

The NFL draft is known for surprises and action and Day 2 of the 2013 draft did not disappoint. Teams moved up and down the draft board while the slides of Manti Te'o, Geno Smith and Tyrann Mathieu came to an end.

The action began quickly in the second round as San Francisco wasted no time making its first move of the day. Seven trades were completed on Friday and the 49ers were involved in three of them. San Francisco held the No. 34 pick, but moved down in the first trade of the day. Before the 49ers could pick at No. 40, two of the biggest names remaining came off the board.

Manti Te'o's slide ended at No. 38 as the San Diego Chargers traded up to select the Notre Dame linebacker. Geno Smith went off the board one pick later with the New York Jets adding yet another quarterback to the mix. Here is a look at all of the second round selections.

Big name selections were not limited to the second round. Former LSU cornerback Tyrann Mathieu found a home in Arizona when the Cardinals selected him with the No. 69 pick. Mathieu had off-field issues in college, but agreed to take weekly drug tests in Arizona and will play with a number of former LSU teammates including his close friend Patrick Peterson.

Another of Mathieu's former teammates, Sam Montgomery, may prove to be one of the steals of the draft as he went to the Texans with the No. 95 pick. Many analysts had Montgomery as a first or second-round talent, but work-ethic concerns pushed him down draft boards. Here's the complete list of third round selections.
