The NFL announced the preseason schedule on Thursday and there were whispers of a possible JaMarcus Russell comeback. If that wasn't enough to get you excited, there was plenty of other things that happened as well.

Here's what you may have missed on Thursday.

The NFL released their preseason schedule on Thursday. Most games are just given a range of dates in which they'll be played, but prime time games already have dates and times set. There are 11 of these games that will be played this preseason, including the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio. Here is the schedule.

Lions kicker Jason Hanson announced his retirement after 21 seasons in Detroit. Over the last two decades, Hanson has been one of the best kickers in the NFL and he leaves the game with his name in the record books. Over his career, Hanson has made 496 of 601 field goal attempts.

JaMarcus Russell has shed close to 30 pounds and is reportedly drawing interest from several teams around the league for the first time since his release following the 2009 season. Known as one of the biggest draft busts in NFL history. Russell wouldn't likely be competing for a starting job, but he could serve as a team's backup in 2013.

The Atlanta Falcons decided to release right tackle Ryan Clabo on Thursday. Clabo has been the team's starting right tackle for the last seven seasons. The move was likely made to help free up some money. Clabo's release coupled with Todd McLure's retirement creates some holes in the Falcons' offensive line for the upcoming year.

Another player is looking to make a comeback in the league as safety O.J. Atogwe is looking to get back into the league after missing the entire 2012 season. The 31-year-old safety spent the majority of his career with the St. Louis Rams.
