Tim Tebow will report to Jets OTAs if he remains on roster

USA TODAY Sports

If the New York Jets haven't released him by April 15, quarterback Tim Tebow will report to voluntary team OTAs, according to one report.

New York Jets quarterabck Tim Tebow will report to offseason activities with the team if he remains on the roster, according to Conor Orr of The Star-Ledger. The Jet will begin their voluntary workouts on April 15, and have yet to release Tebow, despite most figuring they would have by now.

Jets head coach Rex Ryan has stated in the past that Tebow will get a chance to compete for the quarterback job in 2013, especially given the fact that the team doesn't have an answer at the position with Mark Sanchez struggling an David Garrard, the most recent signee, not having thrown an NFL pass since 2010.

But most believe that Ryan's statements are just posturing to try and improve the chances of a trade getting done prior to the NFL Draft. It's unclear what they're looking for in return for Tebow, but they're unlikely to have many, if any, takers.

It just seems to be a matter of time before Tebow is actually released, but the Jets holding onto him through the beginning of OTAs doesn't seem like the most unlikely circumstance. It's unfortunate that the Jets are actually in a position in which Tebow would stand a shot at winning the quarterback battle, which is a testament to just how bad Sanchez has become recently.

Regardless, it looks as though Tebow's career with the Jets is coming to an end after just one season. Tebow had 102 rushing yards and six completed passes for 39 yards in one season with the Jets.
