New England cornerback Devin McCourty had "minor" surgery on his right shoulder, according to Shalise Manza Young of the Boston Globe. McCourty spoke with reporters on Tuesday about the surgery and his recovery process:
"It’s going pretty good," said McCourty. "Just rehabbing day-by-day and taking it one step at a time. It’s a process I’m learning and I’m just going through it and listening to the trainers."
McCourty has started all but two games since coming to the Patriots in 2010. The fomer Rutgers star has tallied 43 passes defensed, 14 interceptions and four forced fumbles in his first three seasons. He was part of a pass defense that struggled in 2012.
The Patriots finished 23rd in Football Outsiders' passing DVOA efficiency metric. New England was also 29th in passing yards allowed per game and 17th in opposing quarterback rating. The secondary's one saving grace was interceptions. The Pats finished tied for fifth with 20 interceptions, five of which came from McCourty.
