Jameel McClain injury: Ravens LB has 'no restrictions' on regimen

Jamie Squire

Baltimore's middle linebacker is on the mend after suffering a scary back injury last season.

The Baltimore Ravens are relying more than ever on inside linebacker Jameel McClain, who is stepping into the shoes of the retired Ray Lewis.

McClain divulged some good news recently, telling the Baltimore Sun that his workout regimen has no restrictions after suffering a spinal cord contusion last December.

"I'm doing good, I'm doing great," McClain said. "I'm running around full speed, working out, lifting weights with no problems, nothing on my end. I can do everything. Everything is positive on my end.

McClain did not have to have surgery to fix the problem, but it did keep him out throughout the playoffs and Super Bowl. Of course, Baltimore went on to win its first championship since the 2000 season.

A timetable for when McClain is able to get back on the field is unknown at this point. However, the linebacker is making steady progress and could be on the field in training camp if everything continues to go well.

Baltimore needs McClain to be healthy and the player it believes he can be with the departures of safety Ed Reed, outside linebacker Paul Kruger and Lewis.
