The Eagles are temporarily moving tight end Clay Harbor to outside rush linebacker, according to Vaughn Johnson of Philly.com. With the team in need of extra help at the position and a excess of tight ends currently on the roster, Harbor will make the switch for the time being.
Brent Celek, Zach Ertz, James Casey and Derek Carrier all join Harbor on the depth chart at this point. Chip Kelly is putting a larger emphasis on the tight end position, which was made clear after the Eagles signed Casey and drafted Ertz in the offseason. Harbor won't be seeing much playing time among a group that deep.
Philadelphia is attempting to convert Trent Cole and Brandon Graham to outside rush linebacker, but with Johnson says it's been a steep process for them so far. Harbor adds depth, or just another body, to throw into the mix.
Harbor tweeted he is just learning the position for "emergency situations and versatility purposes." Whatever the case, his future with the Eagles does not look secure at the moment.
