LOS ANGELES - There's no red meat in the Philadelphia Eagles cafeteria anymore. Taco Tuesday is gone. These days it's mostly chicken and fish, according to Zach Ertz. The rookie tight end gave SB Nation an exclusive peak inside his new team's cafeteria on Friday at the NFLPA Rookie Premiere.
"Everybody knows that your body is your job," Ertz said. "What you put in it, you're going to get out of it, and I don't know if Taco Tuesday was the most healthy thing."
It was another special on the menu that the rookie really noticed, not the weekly feeding fiesta.
"I wasn't surprised by Taco Tuesday, but Fast Food Friday was a big surprise," Ertz said.
The menu is getting a makeover along with the playbook under head coach Chip Kelly. Like his offense, the first-year head coach is embracing the novel concept that player nutrition is directly related to performance on the field.
"I think a lot of guys are open to it," Ertz said. "Coach Kelly's doing a great job."
Does Ertz kind of wish that maybe Kelly had kept the Tuesday tradition?
"I wouldn't have been a big proponent of Taco Tuesday."
