Rob Gronkowski injury: Patriots TE 'looks great' in offseason program

Jim Rogash

After an offseason of setbacks, Rob Gronkowski may be finally be emerging out of the shadows of injury.

Rob Gronkowski may finally be ready to put his injury-plagued year behind him. While the New England Patriots tight end is still waiting to hear whether he will need a fourth surgery on his left forearm, those who have seen him work out during the team's offseason program say he "looks great," according to ESPN Boston.

Gronkowski is still recovering from a broken forearm he suffered during the Patriots' Divisional playoff win over the Houston Texans. After undergoing two surgeries, he developed an infection that could threaten his playing status to start the 2013 season. There have been no setbacks since, however, and if the fourth procedure isn't needed, Gronkowski's availability for the season opener is likely.

Gronkowski appeared in just 11 games during the regular season. He initially broke his forearm in November, and sat until he was able to return in Week 16. His comeback didn't last long, however. He broke his forearm in a different place just two weeks later against the Texans.

The Patriots could be desperate at tight end to start the season. Aaron Hernandez is rehabbing from shoulder surgery, and may have to begin the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list.
