Ahmad Bradshaw is expected to sign with the Indianapolis Colts after visiting with the team Thursday. The two parties are currently negotiating a contract, according to Kimberly Jones of the NFL Network. Bradshaw hit the free agent market after being released by the New York Giants in May.
Bradshaw is coming off his second season with over 1,000 yards rushing in his six-year NFL career. He also battled foot and ankle injuries yet again. Though Bradshaw is just 27 years old, he did not garner much interest on the free agent market following his release, perhaps because of his injury history. The Pittsburgh Steelers, Green Bay Packers and Denver Broncos all worked out Bradshaw before addressing running back depth via the NFL Draft.
In Indianapolis, Bradshaw likely would not be expected to carry a full load by himself. As the SB Nation blog Stampede Blue suggests, coaches are also fond of Vick Ballard, setting up a potential timeshare between the two backs with Donald Brown also seeing touches in a change-of-pace role.
Bradshaw arguably has a more versatile skill set than either Ballard or Brown. He was an adept receiver and pass blocker with the Giants, as well as a 4.6 YPC ball carrier over the course of 921 career rushes.
