Cowboys, Dolphins open NFL training camp season

USA TODAY Sports

Our long national nightmare is almost over -- training camp starts next week! Here is everything you need to know about the upcoming schedule.

The NFL offseason is dark and full of terrors. Thankfully, the worst part of the sports calendar is almost over, with training camps opening next week.

Technically, two camps will be opening this week. The Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins get a head start on the rest of the league, as both teams will be opening camp on Saturday due to their participation in the Hall of Fame Game on August 4. The Cincinnati Bengals, this year's "Hard Knocks" team, start camp on July 24.

For the other 29 teams in the league, they will open camp sometime between the 21st and 27th. Most of the camps will take place at team facilities, unlike training camps of yesteryear, when teams practiced at tiny regional colleges hundreds of miles away from their home city. This year, 19 of 32 teams will be training at home.

Whether it's seeing rookies and free agents for the first time, catching up with veteran favorites, or getting a look at the new defensive scheme, there's always something intriguing to watch at training camps, even if the players aren't wearing pads yet. It's certainly a lot more interesting than talking about Colin Kaepernick's hat.

Here is the complete training camp schedule for all 32 teams. The rookies generally report first, followed by the veterans a couple of days later:
