Hillis, 27, is scheduled to visit the team on Tuesday, according to Jenna Laine of Sports Talk Florida, as he works to rebuild a spiraling career. After 1,177 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns in 2010, Hillis was voted to the cover of EA Sports' Madden NFL 12, but tallied just four seasons in the two seasons that followed.
Sander Philipse of Bucs Nation compared Hillis to a Buccaneers running back that has had an up-and-down start to his NFL career:
Starting in 2010, Hillis' career looks eerily similar to Legarrette Blount's. Major differences being Hillis' penchant for getting injured, and his better performance in the passing game. But one good season is all Hillis has had, so we can't expect too much if he even makes the roster.
However, the fact that the Bucs' running back competition behind Doug Martin currently consists of people with 0 NFL carries fighting for a job may give Hillis a chance to do something, if the Buccaneers even sign him.
Shiancoe, 33, will also visit on Tuesday, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, as he looks to continue his NFL career. Following five seasons as the starting tight end for the Minnesota Vikings, Shiancoe spent the 2012 season with the New England Patriots, but was unable to make the stat sheet.
The Buccaneers will open training camp with their first practice on Thursday.
