Eagles' Jason Phillips out for the season, per report

USA TODAY Sports

A few days after losing Jeremy Maclin to a torn ACL, the Eagles lost linebacker Jason Phillips for the season due to another knee injury.

Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Jason Phillips will miss the 2013 season after suffering a torn ACL during practice on Monday, according to Jeff Darlington of NFL.com.

According to Bleeding Green Nation, Phillips injured his right knee during a special teams drill and had to be carted off the field. The injury looked serious initially and that proved to be the case as tests confirmed a torn ACL. The 27-year-old Phillips signed with Philadelphia this offseason. He's been a standout special teams player during his career and was expected to fill that role for the Eagles while also serving as a backup linebacker.

Phillips' injury is just the latest of several serious injuries during the first few days of training camp. Philadelphia lost wide receiver Jeremy Maclin to a torn ACL earlier in camp, while Baltimore will be without tight end Dennis Pitta after he suffered a hip injury.

Originally a fifth-round pick, Phillips spent time in Baltimore and Carolina during his career. He appeared in all 16 games last season for the Panthers, including two starts.
