Kevin Boss hasn't been cleared medically to play in NFL

Jeff Curry-US PRESSWIRE

Concussion problems continue to keep the currently unemployed tight end out of football.

Free agent tight end Kevin Boss, best known for his four seasons with the New York Giants, has yet to be medically cleared to return to the NFL, according to the Miami Herald.

Boss is battling concussion issues, having sustained his fourth known concussion last season while playing for the Kansas City Chiefs. The sixth-year pro played in just two games for the Chiefs in 2012 and was cut from the team following a failed physical.

A fifth-round draft pick by the Giants in 2007, Boss emerged onto the league's stage in 2008, grabbing six touchdowns that year. He left New York having compiled 1,600 yards and 18 touchdowns over four seasons. He signed with the Oakland Raiders in 2011, pulling in three touchdowns in his only season with the team before being cut and joining the Chiefs.

Boss's name has been brought up as an option for the Miami Dolphins, who are looking to find a replacement at tight end after a severe knee injury to Dustin Keller during Saturday's preseason game against the Houston Texans. Unless Boss can be medically cleared in the immediate future, however, he won't be heading to Miami.
