Cowboys' Doug Free begins practicing at guard

Dallas is testing Free's ability at guard with so many issues surrounding the position.

The Dallas Cowboys are taking a look at Doug Free playing guard, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Dallas has all kinds of problems along the offensive line, especially at the guard spot. The slated starters going into the offseason were Mackenzy Bernadeau and Nate Livings, but that hasn't gone according to plan. Moving Free inside from his right tackle position also shifted Bernadeau to the left side, putting him between left tackle Tyron Smith and rookie center Travis Frederick.

The guards have been injury-ravaged, with Bernadeau having a variety of injuries leading into camp, highlighted by a bad shoulder. However, Bernadeau is back and playing at 100 percent. On the other hand, Livings had to undergo right knee surgery and may not be back in time for the season opener against the New York Giants.

Ron Leary, the first in line to replace either Bernadeau or Livings, also went down with a knee injury and might miss the Giants game.
