Matt Leinart signs with Buffalo Bills

Joe Nicholson-US PRESSWIRE

Buffalo inked the veteran quarterback in hopes of stabilizing the quarterback position with injuries muddying the waters.

The Buffalo Bills signed quarterback Matt Leinart on Sunday, bringing in their potential Week 1 starter in light of injuries to Kevin Kolb and rookie E.J. Manuel, according to NFL.com.

Leinart played last season with the Oakland Raiders after being a part of the Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals organizations after the 2006 draft, when he was drafted 10th overall by Arizona.

Bringing in Leinart was a neccessity for the Bills, who watched Kolb suffer what some believe to be a career-threatening concussion last week against the Washington Redskins. Manuel is sidelined after undergoing knee surgery, perhaps coming back in time for the season opener on Sept. 8.

In his professional career, Leinart has struggled to ever show promise. Entering his eighth year in the NFL, the former USC star has thrown 15 touchdowns and 21 interceptions and amassed 4,065 passing yards.
