Texans trim roster by releasing 11 players

USA TODAY Sports

The Texans only need to make three more cuts after releasing 11 players on Monday.

The Houston Texans began trimming their roster on Monday by releasing 11 players, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.

The Texans cut linebacker Elliot Coffey, running back Ray Graham, fullback Zach Boren, quarterback Stephen McGee, guard Bryan Collins, tackle Nick Mondek, defensive end Earl Okine, CB Travis Howard, punter Andrew Shapiro, linebacker Ja'Gared Davis and tight end Adam Schiltz.

Houston still has to make three more cuts before Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.

Graham was the most notable cut by Houston, though not a surprising one. Given the Texans' incredible depth at running back, the undrafted free agent faced an uphill battle to make the roster. It works in his favor that he was an early cut. That gives him more time to find another suitor before opening day.

Dennis Johnson appears to have outperformed Graham, making the former University of Pittsburgh running back expendable.
