Dallas cuts: Jay Ratliff heads to the PUP list as Cowboys trim roster to 75

Matthew Emmons-US PRESSWIRE

The Cowboys released nine players and put one projected starter on the PUP list and their roster now sits at 75 players.

The Dallas Cowboys made 12 roster moves on Tuesday, cutting their roster from 87 to 75 players by the NFL's deadline for first cuts. In addition to releasing nine players, Dallas placed three players on reserve lists, including starting defensive lineman Jay Ratliff.

Dallas placed Ratliff on the reserve/physically unable to perform list due to a hamstring injury he suffered during a conditioning test prior to training camp. The move means Ratliff will be forced to sit out at least the first six games of the regular season. He would be eligible to return for Week 7 and could remain on the PUP list until Week 15.

While Ratliff can still return this season, defensive end Tyrone Crawford and guard Ryan Cook will not. Both players were placed on injured reserve after suffering injuries during training camp.

The Cowboys released defensive tackle Jeris Pendleton on Monday then followed it up on Tuesday by releasing wide receiver Jared Green, wide receiver Eric Rogers, wide receiver Anthony Amos, quarterback Nick Stephens, tight end Colin Cochart, guard Dennis Godfrey, cornerback Brandon Underwood, linebacker Deon Lacey and kicker Brett Maher.

As Blogging The Boys wrote, none of cuts came as much of a surprise. Even putting Ratliff on the PUP list wasn't a shocker with Dallas owner Jerry Jones hinting at the move in recent days.
