The San Francisco 49ers and San Diego Chargers will meet for their final preseason game on Thursday, Aug. 29. Both teams played their starters a good bit in their third preseason games, and both teams will rest the majority of said starters for this one.
For the 49ers, they're likely just glad to get out of things without even more injuries. The early-goings of organized team activities and training camp saw significant injuries to wide receiver Michael Crabtree and cornerback Chris Culliver. Seeing how they cut down the roster following this one will be interesting, though there are likely multiple battles that will need to be settled at backup positions and special teams in this one.
For the Chargers, they're trying to figure out a few key positions. They need some receivers and pass-rushers to step up, and while the current starters will likely sit Thursday, they will still be looking at potential contributors getting some work in early in this game. They need to see a lot more before they make their final cuts, with several more open positions up for grabs than the 49ers.
