The Tennessee Titans have placed wide receiver Marc Mariani on injured reserve, ending his season after suffering a shoulder injury in training camp and missing the entire preseason. Darius Reynaud will be the team's starting return man in his place.
Mariani made the Pro Bowl in 2010 as a return specialist when he recorded 1,859 return yards and two touchdowns, but he hasn't played since 2011. Mariani suffered a season-ending injury in the 2012 preseason, breaking both his tibia and fibula.
Reynaud took over and became one of the better returners in the league, averaging 13.2 yards on punts and 23.4 yards on kickoffs. The Titans re-signed him to a one-year deal in the offseason.
Mariani's future with the team is now uncertain. He's a free agent after this season and his roster spot was considered in jeopardy before being placed on injured reserve. The Titans may consider letting him walk if Reynaud has another solid season as the return man.
