Menelik Watson injury: Raiders rookie LT has knee surgery

Thearon W. Henderson

Oakland is now without its left tackle for the foreseeable future after surgery.

Oakland Raiders left tackle Menelik Watson will be out for about a month after undergoing knee surgery, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Raiders have been devastated by injuries along the offensive line this season. Oakland has lost star left tackle Jared Veldheer with a torn triceps, though he is eligible to return from short-term injured reserve later in the season, and now sees Watson, his backup, go under the knife after tweaking his knee during a practice.

Watson was a right tackle in college, but switched to help out the depth chart once Alex Barron was released in the preseason. While Watson is on the shelf, the Raiders will continue to start Khalif Barnes on the left side instead of the right where Barnes is more comfortable.

Watson is a rookie after being taken out of Florida State in the second round with the 42nd overall pick. Last year in his junior season, Watson earned a spot on the All-ACC honorable mention team.
