Donald Thomas injury: Colts guard out for season

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

Indianapolis has lost a chunk of its starting offensive line with Thomas going down for the count.

The Indianapolis Colts lost at home to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. The Colts also said goodbye to starting guard Donald Thomas after it was discovered that his injury will keep him out for the season, according to the Indianapolis Star.

Thomas tore the right quadriceps in his leg and had to be carted off field during the first quarter of Sunday's game. Thomas was a key addition to a Colts offensive line that struggled to protect quarterback Andrew Luck last year after signing him away from the New England Patriots to a four-year, $14 million deal.

Over at Stampede Blue, Josh Wilson discusses what a huge blow this is for the Colts, a team looking for a second consecutive playoff appearance:

He was really the only guard that they could consistently depend on and was one of the few actually good lineman on this Colts team.  And now he's done for the year.  This offensive line just keeps getting worse.  And also, this means that Mike McGlynn will be starting all year, barring an injury.  That shows you how much this hurts, right?  This is a huge injury for the Colts.

Third-round pick High Thornton, who spent most of the offseason practicing on the right side, will takes the place of Thomas.
