The Green Bay Packers might be without their starting rookie running back for a few weeks, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette.
Eddie Lacy was hurt in the first quarter of Green Bay's victory over the Washington Redskins at Lambeau Field on Sunday, on a questionable hit by safety Brandon Meriweather. Lacy left the game with a concussion and did not return.
Green Bay head coach Mike McCarthy was not a fan of Meriweather's hit, which he believes was helmet-to-helmet. Per the story:
"The Washington safety definitely led with his helmet, so I know that’s not what we’re looking for," said McCarthy at his Monday press conference.
Should Lacy be out for Week 3 against the Cincinnati Bengals, Green Bay is left with John Kuhn, Johnathan Franklin and James Starks to carry the load. However, Kuhn suffered a hamstring injury versus Washington and is not definitely going to be on the field Sunday. If Lacy sits this weekend, he will have a extra week of rest with Week 4 being a bye for the Packers.
Meriweather later knocked himself out of the contest with a concussion when he lowered his head on a hit to Starks. The Redskins' safety has a history of illegal hits, being fined three times for a grand total of $95,000 in his career.
