The Bears may have lost their best young defender on Sunday night against the Steelers.

The fifth-year player injured his left knee during a pass-rush attempt in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game. Melton's knee appeared to buckle as he turned to get around Steelers' guard David DeCastro and he grimaced on the ground holding his left knee for several minutes before being transported off the field on a cart and he did not return to the game.

Melton was selected for the Pro Bowl last season and contributed five tackles in three starts this year. He was given the franchise tag by the Bears this off-season and is scheduled to be a free agent next summer. The former fourth-round pick has complied 15.5 sacks over his career.
