Tom Brady: Patriots overcome 'unusual circumstances' for 3-0 start to season

New England has not looked great, but it has found a way to survive a host of injuries to its offense.

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has dealt with most of his playmakers on the shelf, yet has his team 3-0 and sitting tied atop the AFC East with the Miami Dolphins.

Brady talked with WEEI's Dennis and Callahan Show on Monday morning, and discussed how this season has unfolded with a bevy of young receivers leading the way, after losing Wes Welker, Brandon Lloyd and Aaron Hernandez. Per the Boston Herald:

"The expectation for us is to get better and improve," Brady said. "The guys that we have are the guys that we've practiced with and played with the first three weeks. I mean, look, nobody thought that Gronk would be out at this point. No one thought what happened with Hernandez would have happened. No one thought Danny (Amendola) would be out. No one thought Shane Vereen would be out. There's kind of some unusual circumstances, but that's where we're at, and you know what? We're 3-0."

Few teams are as banged up as New England. Vereen was placed on Injured Reserve-designated to return, so he is out until at least late November after breaking his wrist. Danny Amendola hurt his groin in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills and is yet to get healthy. As for Rob Gronkowski, he is still working his way back from a litany of surgeries to his forearm in the offseason.

Next week, Brady and New England will hope for continued success against the Atlanta Falcons in primetime on Sunday night.
