NFL news roundup: Anthony Spencer, Alex Okafor out for season

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Dallas Cowboys defensive end Anthony Spencer will have season-ending surgery and Arizona Cardinals linebacker Alex Okafor is out for the reason as well. Read on for more from Tuesday.

Dallas Cowboys defensive end Anthony Spencer will undergo season-ending microfracture surgery. Spencer underwent knee surgery on his left leg in July and recently returned to action, but there are still complications that he needs to take care of at this point. He played in the Week 2 game against the Chiefs in a limited role, but will now be out until at least February of net year. He'll be a free agent in the summer.

Here's what else you might have missed from Tuesday:

Okafor out for season

Arizona Cardinals linebacker Alex Okafor is out for the season due to a torn biceps tendon. Okafor, a rookie, was an important piece of depth on the roster. He made his season debut against the New Orleans Saints, and it's likely the injury occurred during that game. He was a fourth-round pick this year, and was moved to the top of the depth chart after both Lorenzo Alexander and Sam Acho suffered season-ending injuries as well.

Rolle frustrated with lack of teamwork

New York Giants safety Antrel Rolle said that he and his teammates are "not fighting for one another." Rolle was responding to a comment made by Giants analyst and former player Carl Banks, who said that the Giants players "don't like each other." Rolle said that wasn't the case, but that it didn't feel like the players were playing for their teammates in Week 3, and that it needs to change. The Giants are currently 0-3 and face the unbeaten Kansas City Chiefs in Week 4.

Burleson not headed for injured reserve

Detroit Lions wide receiver Nate Burleson won't be placed on injured reserve. Burleson broke his left forearm in two places in a fluke car crash. He was reportedly reaching for a pizza box when his car hit the median. He's expected to have surgery on Wednesday. He was leading the Lions with 19 receptions and had 239 yards, so his presence will certainly be missed. Fortunately, the Lions still have Calvin Johnson.

Peters dealing with finger injury

Philadelphia Eagles left tackle Jason Peters was limited by a finger injury in Week 3. He dislocated the finger in the season opener and aggravated the injury against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday. He struggled in the game, allowing five quarterback hurries and a sack. The Eagles eventually lost the game. It's unclear when the injury will heal up, or if he'll be dealing with it all season.
