Joe Staley injury: 49ers LT appears to escape serious injury

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

A leg injury caused SF All Pro offensive tackle Joe Staley to scream in pain on the field, but he appears to have come out of the situation unhindered.

San Francisco 49ers' left tackle Joe Staley left Thursday night's game against the St. Louis Rams with an apparent leg injury. However, Staley and his team appear to have escaped any serious setbacks.

The 49ers were trying to run down the clock with less than two minutes in the game when Staley was bent over backwards on the block, letting out an audible scream near the TV microphone. He remained down on the field for several minutes surrounded by his teammates. A cart was brought onto the field to take him off, but Staley stood and managed to leave the field with the help of trainers. There is no official update on his status at this time, but according to a source in St. Louis he left the X-ray room without a limp.

Staley later tweeted, "I'm good. And I scream like no dude should ever scream lol my bad."

Staley played a sensational game, limiting the pressure on Colin Kaepernick. The game marked a return to traditional 49ers' offense, and it remains to be seen how the organization would handle an injury to their two-time All Pro if the injury is of a quite serious nature.

San Francisco lack any true offensive tackles to fill the gap, and it's expected they'll rotate their interior linemen out. Alex Boone could move from right guard out to the left tackle spot, while rotational lineman Adam Snyder fills the void on the right side.
