Ponder was held out of practice on Friday with a rib injury and will take a back seat to Matt Cassel in Sunday's game. But that's not the only quarterback news related to the Vikings this week.
Here's the rest of the news you may have missed on Friday.
After the Buccaneers officially named Mike Glennon the starting quarterback this week, Josh Freeman trade rumors began swirling. Now it appears the Vikings are a suitor for Freeman's services. Minnesota will be starting Cassel at quarterback in Week 4 for the injured Ponder, and Ponder hasn't shown much to inspire confidence in the front office. So a Freeman trade would make some sense, given the fact that Minnesota has a playoff-caliber roster outside of the quarterback position.
Trent Richardson will get a chance to carry the load for the Colts sooner than expected. Ahmad Bradshaw has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Jaguars after suffering a neck injury on a significant hit. Colts coach Chuck Pagano is not saying when the hit occurred, but it was enough to keep him out this week. Richardson, for whom the Colts traded a first-round pick prior to Week 3, will get his chance to shine.
Three associates of Aaron Hernandez were indicted on Friday. Hernandez's fiancee was indicted on one count of perjury. His cousin, Tanya Singleton, was indicted on one count of conspiracy to commit accessory after the fact. And Carlos Ortiz was indicted on one count of accessory to murder after the fact. All indictments are in connection to the ongoing investigation into the murder of Odin Lloyd.
