Cowboys vs. Chargers 2013 final score: Philip Rivers keeps San Diego alive in AFC West with win

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODA

The Chargers trailed by eight at halftime but dominated in the second half to keep pace with the Chiefs and Broncos, while Dallas was unable to build their lead in the NFC East.

Tony Romo had a hot first half, throwing two touchdowns as the Cowboys led the Chargers, 21-13, but it was all San Diego in the second half as Philip Rivers led the Chargers to a 30-21 win. While the San Diego defense held Dallas scoreless after halftime, Rivers helped sustain long scoring drives and made it a two-score lead when he hit Antonio Gates for a 56-yard touchdown with 7:02 remaining in the game.

Rivers finished the game going 35-of-42 for 401 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. It was the fifth-most yards he has had in a game during his career and he completed 36 passes for 419 yards against the Eagles just two weeks ago.

The Cowboys fall to 2-2 on the same day that the Redskins finally picked up their first win of the season. Dallas now holds just a one-game lead over Washington (1-3) and Philadelphia (1-3), with the Giants (0-4) still in the cellar.

The Chargers move up to 2-2, while the Broncos and Chiefs still lead the division at 4-0.
