Giants injury report: Victor Cruz, Jason Pierre-Paul back at practice

Victor Cruz and Jason Pierre-Paul are back at practice for the Giants. Whether both will play in Sunday's season opener remains to be seen.

Victor Cruz and Jason Pierre-Paul will return to practice for the New York Giants on Wednesday, Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reports. Head coach Tom Coughlin said that both players are "full speed ahead" in their recovery from injuries. Cruz suffered a bruised heel in the Giants' second preseason game. Pierre-Paul is dealing with a nagging back injury.

Cruz is expected to play Sunday night when the Giants open their regular-season slate against the Dallas Cowboys. He had been in a walking boot until this past Monday, when he returned to practice for the first time since landing awkwardly after going up for a pass early against the Indianapolis Colts. Thankfully for Cruz, X-rays came back negative.

Pierre-Paul's status for Sunday's game is iffier. Paul Schwartz reported Monday that the defensive end was non-committal when asked if he would play against the Cowboys. Pierre-Paul was removed from the physically unable to perform list prior to last Thursday's preseason finale against the New England Patriots, but he did not play. His conditioning may be an issue after so much time off.
