The Houston Texans and San Diego Chargers are going in opposite directions. The Texans have finally made it over the "make the playoffs" hump and are now definitive Super Bowl contenders. Anything less would be a disappointment. The Chargers have been in the playoffs off and on for the last decade but their window seems to be closing.
The two teams will meet in San Diego for Monday Night Football on ESPN. It will be the final matchup of Week 1, and it should be a good one.
Houston is in a good place right now, coming off a 12-4 season. The team has linebacker Brian Cushing back, which is huge. He tore his ACL in Week 5 of last year and missed the rest of the season. With him back in action, the Texans promise to have one of the stronger defenses in the NFL.
That will be a problem for the Chargers, who are hurting on offense. They finished second-to-last in total offense last season, with Philip Rivers having a down year. Now the team has several injuries on the offensive side of the ball, especially to receivers. Danario Alexander is hurt, and Malcom Floyd and Eddie Royal are also banged up.
