Whitworth missed the Bengals' season opener against Chicago due to a knee injury. It was the first start he's missed since 2008, breaking a string of 64 straight starts during the regular season. Whitworth had a scope done on his knee in February and initially there wasn't any concern he'd miss the start of camp, yet alone the start of the season. The recovery, however, has lasted longer than initially expected and Whitworth missed the entire preseason.

He did light work in practice last week, but was listed as doubtful leading up to the game. Anthony Collins filled in for Whitworth at left tackle and fared reasonably well against Julius Peppers and the Bears. Pro Football Focus gave Collins a plus-2.0 rating for the game and according to their charting, Collins allowed just one pressure on 27 snaps against Peppers.

Cincinnati's offensive line will get another test this week with the Pittsburgh Steelers coming to town. Whitworth will have the advantage of another day to recover with the Bengals hosting the Steelers on Monday Night Football.
