The Rams receiver missed the last three games of the season with an ankle injury, but wants to return strong in 2014.

St. Louis Rams wide receiver Tavon Austin told ESPN that he plans to add "a couple more pounds" in the offseason to better prepare himself for the rigors of the NFL entering Year 2. Austin, the eighth overall pick in the 2013 draft, had 40 catches for 418 yards as a rookie, but missed the final three games of the year with an ankle injury.

Regarded highly coming out of West Virginia because of his speed, Austin ran a 4.34 40-yard dash at the 2013 combine, the fastest of his class. There were unofficial reports that Austin ran the 40 in 4.25 seconds, which would be one of the fastest times ever recorded at the combine. Austin also noted that the added weight wouldn't slow him down, and that he would be working on the "mental part" of the game.

The Rams traded up in the draft with the Buffalo Bills in order to select Austin. In addition to his receiving numbers, he rushed for 151 yards and returned kickoffs and punts. All told, Austin scored six touchdowns as a rookie and had two called back due to penalties.
