49ers are in for a dog fight against Seahawks, Frank Gore says

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The 49ers and Seahawks will likely feature ground-and-pound offenses looking for room against two top defenses.

The Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers finished the 2013 season with the first- and third-fewest points allowed, setting up an NFC Championship that should feature plenty of defense. Running back Frank Gore expects as much, telling Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area that he expects a dog fight on the road.

"We have to go to Seattle," 49ers running back Frank Gore said. "We know it's going to be a dog fight. But we are built for this."

If there's a weakness at all in the Seattle defense it would be the team's run defense, where the unit finished seventh in total yards and yards per attempt allowed. The 49ers will look to attack that with a rushing attack led by Gore that finished with the third-most rushing yards in the regular season and combined for 293 yards rushing in playoff wins over the Green Bay Packers and Carolina Panthers.

The Seahawks similarly keep their offensive attack on the ground predominantly, as they racked up 174 yards rushing against the New Orleans Saints on Saturday.

The NFC Championship is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. ET in Seattle on Sunday.
