UPDATE: More details have emerged about Davone Bess' arrest and, well ...
According to the report, Bess was acting irrationally and was dancing and singing as his pants repeatedly fell down.
When an officer approached Bess and asked if he was alright, Bess didn't respond. He then grabbed a cup of coffee that didn't belong to him and squeezed it, causing the hot liquid to spill on the officer's uniform, the report said.
Bess took a fighting stance and was struck in the leg with a police baton by the officer, which had no effect, the report said.
Bess then took off his shirt and took up the fighting stance and refused to get on the ground, the report said.
When backup arrived, Bess finally complied and was taken into custody.
The police report noted that Bess appeared to be under the influence of an unknown narcotic. He has been charged with simple assault on an officer, disorderly conduct and resisting an officer without violence.
ORIGINAL: Davone Bess was arrested early Friday morning for assaulting a police officer/firefighter at the Fort Lauderdale International Airport, according to the CBS in Miami. The arrest comes a little more than 24 hours after the Cleveland Browns wideout drew the ire and/or chuckles of the internet for tweeting a picture of his Wednesday night, which apparently included marijuana and fancy liquor.
Bess was reportedly taken into custody at approximately 6:19 a.m. in Florida. There are no details yet on what sparked the incident, or what exactly happened.
Bess joined the Browns this past year after playing five seasons with the Miami Dolphins out of Hawaii. He struggled in a bad Browns offense, catching a career low 42 passes for 362 yards and two touchdowns. His best season came in 2010, when he had 79 receptions for 820 yards and five touchdowns.
The offending Twitter picture coupled with Bess' prompt arrest could draw the ire of the NFL. The league is apparently aware of the photo, though NFL spokesman Greg Aiello declined to tell CBS Sports how the situation may be handled.
