NFL Playoff odds and lines, Chargers vs. Bengals 2014: Cincinnati favored at home

Andy Lyons

The Cincinnati Bengals are significant favorites over the San Diego Chargers for their Wild Card matchup on Jan. 5.

The San Diego Chargers will hit the road to take on the Cincinnati Bengals in the Wild Card round of the NFL playoffs on Sunday. The Chargers fought hard in Week 17, taking the Kansas City Chiefs to overtime and eventually winning to secure their improbable spot in the postseason.

Cincinnati, meanwhile, was already secure in its berth, having won the division. That didn't stop the Bengals from beating the Baltimore Ravens in Week 17, though. The Bengals are 11-5 and have looked solid all year, while the Chargers are 9-7, and were seen as a team with an outside chance of making it when Week 17 got underway.

On Sunday, the Chargers will be underdogs once again. Cincinnati opened as 7-point favorites for the matchup, though the line has moved in both directions, according to OddsShark. Some sites had Cincinnati favored by 6.5 points, while another increased to 7.5 points. Either way, the message is clear: the Bengals are favored.

The over/under opened up at 47 points. That total has gone under in eight of San Diego's last 12 games, but over in five of Cincinnati's last six. It's gone under in five of San Diego's last seven games on the road, and over in all five of Cincinnati's last five games at home.
