Knowshon Moreno injury update: Broncos RB should be ready for Super Bowl

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

X-rays on Moreno's injured ribs came up negative.

The Denver Broncos are expected to have their leading rusher available when they take the field in East Rutherford, N.J. for Super Bowl XLVIII. X-rays on the running back's ribs came up negative, according to ESPN's Josina Anderson, and FOX Sports reports that he should be recovered in time to play against the Seattle Seahawks on Feb. 2.

Moreno exited during the fourth quarter of the Broncos' AFC Championship win over the New England Patriots with a chest injury. He was initially listed as questionable to return but remained on the sideline while Peyton Manning directed a game-clinching drive during the final minutes.

Moreno played a secondary role on Sunday -- running 14 times for 59 yards -- but will likely be relied on heavily to keep Seattle's top-ranked secondary honest in the title game. While the Seahawks run defense is stout in its own right, it's not quite as formidable as its pass defense, and Moreno will be the key to taking advantage.

The former first-round pick had a breakout 2013, topping the 1,000-yard mark and rushing for double-digit touchdowns for the first time in his five-year career.
