Super Bowl XLVIII prop bets: Lynch scores first touchdown of the game

A popular prop bet each year at the Super Bowl is which player will score the first touchdown. This year, the favorite came through.

If you've been keeping track, Super Bowl XLVIII has already settled tons of prop bets. That's because an insane number of people bet on what will happen with the coin toss, the national anthem and things of that nature. But if you're more grounded in what actually happens in play, you might have been betting on which player is going to score the first touchdown.

The odds for that bet were pretty logical. Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch was first up at 5/1 odds. He was followed by Denver Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno at 17/2, and three more Broncos players in Demaryius Thomas, Wes Welker and Eric Decker at 9/1. Quarterbacks do not have good odds, because it is based on the person who has the ball in his hands when he enters the end zone.

The first touchdown ended up being scored by Lynch early in the second quarter. It came on second-and-goal, capping off a 37-yard drive that had been set up when Kam Chancellor intercepted a pass by Peyton Manning.

Lynch was favored for a reason. While he doesn't play for the record-setting Broncos, he powered the Seahawks through many games this year. Lynch finished the regular season with 1,257 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns, adding 316 receiving yards and two touchdowns through the air. Coming into the Super Bowl, he had 249 yards and three touchdowns in two playoff games. Given that he's the top offensive weapon for the Seahawks, this line made plenty of sense.
