The Super Bowl halftime show is always a point of focus each and every year. It's usually a huge trainwreck, but like real train wrecks, it draws attention and eyeballs. As such, it also draws the attention of Vegas and many crazy prop bets are applied to the event as a whole.
There were three prop bets in particular surrounding the halftime show, and we'll talk about all three and how they ended up going.
Which song will Bruno Mars perform first?
Believe it or not, this prop bet actually saw enough action to move considerably. Initially, "Locked Out of Heaven" was the favorite to be played first, but just before the game, it was "Treasure" at 2/1 odds. Next came "Grenade," "Locked Out of Heaven," "Just The Way You Are," "Marry You," "The Lazy Song" and "Gorilla."
As it turns out, the first song he sang was "Locked Out of Heaven." It will be interesting to see how sports books view this because there was a snippet from "Billionaire" before he began singing his bigger hit.
If you happened to own a television and watched TV in the leadup to the game, you probably are already sick of "Locked Out of Heaven." It only makes sense that it ended up being the first song. Of course, he had to tease us with the thought that he might not play it, leading with something else first. But it still happened.
What will Bruno Mars be wearing on his head at the start of his halftime performance?
We were under the impression Bruno Mars has not yet been informed that fedoras are awful. This prop had him at 2/3 odds to be sporting a fedora at the start of the halftime show. But maybe he actually did get notified because he ended up NOT wearing a hat. The odds for that were set at 2/1 odds. You could have gotten 5/1 odds on a fur hat, and 8/1 odds for a toque, which is apparently some sort of knit cap.
Will any member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers be shirtless during their performance?
The Red Hot Chili Peppers are able to get at least one thing right when it comes to sticking to their roots: they like to perform in various states of undress. Rather than get carried away with the specifics, the lines settled on this gem. As it happens, betting "no" was the favorite at -140, with the "yes" option sitting at +100.
And we got both Anthony Kiedis and Flea going shirtless. Congratulations.
