Ndamukong Suh, Lions expected to negotiate new contract soon

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

Suh was a First-Team All-Pro in 2013 and could be on the receiving end of a long-term deal with the Lions soon.

The Detroit Lions will look to negotiate a new deal with Ndamukong Suh as soon as the defensive tackle signs a new agent, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.

Suh, 27, was previously represented by Relativity Sports, but left the agency in January and has yet to hire new representation. The second overall selection in the 2010 NFL Draft, Suh is now entering the final year of the contract he signed as a rookie.

In four seasons with the Lions, Suh has earned three trips to the Pro Bowl and earned First-Team All-Pro honors for the first time in his career in 2013. He has racked up 27.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and 187 tackles.

The Lions don't have much cap room to work with for the 2014 season, but they can actually save space by negotiating a new deal with Suh. The five-year, $63.5 million he signed as a rookie is set to count over $22.4 million against the cap in 2014 and a new deal could cut in to that gigantic number while also providing Suh with some long-term stability with the team.
