Cardinals sign left tackle Jared Veldheer

The Cardinals got a major boost on the offensive line, inking Jared Veldheer to a five-year deal.

The Arizona Cardinals may have finally found the solution to their offensive line issues. Arizona wasted little time, striking a deal with former Oakland left tackle Jared Veldheer minutes into the start of free agency. The sides agreed to a five-year deal, worth up to $37.5 million, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

SB Nation NFL

Last year, the Cardinals' were among the worst pass blocking teams in the NFL by any measure. They allowed 41 sacks and a lot of that had to do with the offensive tackle play. Even in a draft loaded with offensive tackle talent, signing Veldheer, arguably the top free agent offensive lineman on the market, is a smart move. There is no guarantee that one of the top three offensive tackles will be on the board when Arizona picks, either.

Veldheer's deal should set the market for offensive tackles. He spent a lot of last year injured but played well when he was healthy. Arizona is hoping they get a healthier version of Veldheer in 2014. The move leaves the Raiders with a massive hole at left tackle, despite the fact Oakland had more available salary cape space than anyone
