The veteran cornerback appears set to sign with New England after being released by the Buccaneers earlier on Wednesday.

Darrelle Revis is reportedly set to sign with the New England Patriots, according to various reports. Revis was released by the Buccaneers after just one season in Tampa, but it seems he won't be on the market long.

The veteran cornerback has agreed to a one-year, $12 million deal with the the defending AFC East Champions, according to Adam SchefterRoss Jones of Fox Sports is reporting the same details. If the reports are confirmed, it would keep Revis as the highest paid cornerback in the NFL. However, Revis' business manager, John Geiger, says no deal has been agreed to.

The Patriots entered the market for a new cornerback after Aqib Talib signed a six-year deal with the Broncos on Tuesday. That left New England in need of another player in its defensive backfield, and the suddenly-available Revis appears to have been just the player they needed.

Revis was drafted by the Jets in 2007 and spent six years in New York, making the Pro Bowl team four times. He was also named to the All-Pro team three times. In 2012, he played in just two games before suffering a torn ACL.

The Jets traded Revis to Tampa Bay the following offseason in a pre-draft deal and he went on to have excellent year for the Bucs, playing in all 16 games, finishing with 50 tackles, two interceptions and 11 passes defended. Revis was named the 2013 Sporting News Comeback Player of the Year award and went to the Pro Bowl for a fifth time.

The Buccaneers' season was disappointing, however, and in an effort to begin rebuilding, several attempts were made to trade Revis; none of them worked out. The team instead decided to release him and clear up nearly $16 million in cap space.

The reported one-year deal means that Revis and Seahawks corner Richard Sherman could both be available on the free agent market in 2015.
