With April approaching and the number of pro days beginning to wind down, there are still some marquee schools showing off top talent. On Monday, Iowa and N.C. State were among the four participating in the annual ritual.
Here is how the day played out for the participants:
Christian Kirksey/OLB/Iowa runs 4.48s/4.50s forty...30 teams on hand..— Tony Pauline (@TonyPauline) March 24, 2014
Athletic with smooth hips and quick instincts, Kirksey was already being praised as a playmaker with the ability to drop into pass coverage. Showing that kind of speed in the 40 cements that logic, and could bump him a bit higher on draft boards. He's currently projected as a third-rounder.
Kendall James, a potential late-round selection at cornerback, showed some decent wheels at the combine when he churned out a 4.44 40.
Some two dozen teams, including the Carolina Panthers, gathered in Raleigh, according to Jonathan Jones of the Charlotte Observer. Most were there to watch free safety Dontae Johnson, who is projected as a fifth- or sixth-rounder. He looked good in drills, impressing scouts with his versatility
